Digital publishing also knows as electronic publishing or
e-publishing,
Is any type of publishing that involves disseminating
information or
Entertainment by digital means. That’s a pretty broad
definition
And isn’t necessary limited to the web.
What are digital platforms?
A digital platform refers to the software or hardware of a
site. For example, Facebook is a digital platform. twitter is a digital
platform. Pretty much any marketing campaign
or branding these days includes digital platforms. But campaigns and branding
focus on the content, and how you use the platforms.
Advantages of digital publishing
Electronic documents can contain live links: This is one of
the primary advantages of electronic publishing beyond the cost savings,
allowing readers to drill down to more detailed information on important
topics.
Electronic documents can be available to everyone who needs
them instantly, regardless of the users' physical locations worldwide. Not only
are electronic documents available at all corporate offices as soon as they are
published, they are also available to authorized readers who are out of the
office, including outside sales and support personnel and traveling executives.
Disadvantages of digital publishing
Easily pirated
Cannot be
signed/autographed, thus losing this small but sentimental secondary market of
autographed books and book signings
Text can be digitally re-sized, thus losing large print
edition market
Cheaper price (but better royalty split)
Harder to loan to
friends--a counterintuitive point, but a friend loaning a book is excellent
word of mouth, arguably the best marketing a book has
Potentially cannibalizes future paperback sales when
released alongside hardcover publication (hard to prove this)
